Merry Christmas everyone! I hope everyone's day has been fantastic like mine was.
Ok, so over this holiday season I've been sort of battling with myself, so to speak, over the true meaning of Christmas. After a few days I've finally figured it out. I'll share with y'all my thought process on this.
Over the last few weeks I've been sort of ticked off with society over Christmas. It seems like Christmas is becoming more impersonal in a way since what seems to be the main focus now has become materialistic. I hate that. I hate it when holidays lose their meaning due to commericalism. It irks me to no end. Because of that, I was thinking over what Christmas should be. I then remembered that Christmas celebrates the birth of Jesus. I was pretty bent on that being the true meaning of Christmas. I had a little problem with that though. Even though I'm Catholic, I haven't been to church in years so I guess the religious side of me is slowly fading. Because of that, I encountered doublethink since I would have the mindset that Christmas, to me, celebrates the birth of Jesus, but I'm not religious. I thought about it some more over a few days and it finally hit me. Christmas isn't really about spending money we don't have or the birth of Jesus (well, it is....). It's more about spending time with your family and forgetting all of the things that have depressed you recently or have troubled you and just having a damn good time around them.
Oh, and if you're wondering what my favorite holiday is. It's a tie between Martin Luther King Jr. Day and Thanksgiving.
Just for fun, I'll tell y'all what I got. I received: DDR, a Chumby (Google it), external HD, assorted gift cards, assorted clothes, Super Mario Galaxy, portable DVD player, college preparation stuff, and money.
